Oranjekloof Moravian Primary School
Oranjekloof Moravian Primary School is located in Hout Bay, Cape Town, South Africa. The learners are predominately Xhosa and Afrikaans speaking. They are from Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay, which is an informal settlement with little or no infrastructure for sustainable living and it houses over 30 000 residents.
There are approximately 1200 learners at the school ranging from Grade R to Grade 7 accommodated in 32 classrooms which means an average of about 50 learners in a single classroom. This puts tremendous strain on teachers and learners alike which has led to extra tuition on Saturdays.
We have also identified an opportunity to transform an existing open area to a sports area with a mini soccer field, tennis court and netball court. At present it’s just an open muddy piece of land:

Despite facing daily challenges these children are still enthusiastic about learning. With your assistance, we would like to make their environment more conducive to learning.
At present, there is a great need for stationery and other educational implements for classrooms. The classrooms have concrete floors and are in dire need of carpeting. This will immediately create a warmer environment for the learners.
